BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO "PIAN DELLE VIGNE" ANTINORI 2016
Pian delle Vigne estate, located 6 km. south-west of Montalcino, it takes its name from the locality of the same name on which there is a characteristic nineteenth-century railway station. The company consists of 184 hectares, of which 65 are vineyards exposed mainly to the south-west at an altitude of about 130 meters above sea level. Pian delle Vigne has always pursued the philosophy oriented towards the large barrel, capable of preserving the extraordinary integrity of the Sangiovese fruit and giving the Brunello its characteristic vibrant elegance. The company has been owned by the Antinori family since 1995, the year of the first harvest of Pian delle Vigne Brunello di Montalcino DOCG.
The Brunello di Montalcino Pian delle Vigne di Antinori is produced exclusively with Sangiovese grapes. The 2016 vintage was characterized by a winter that tended to be little rainy and a mild spring. These climatic conditions favored a slight advance of budding and flowering, recovered starting from setting, which took place regularly. The summer, which tended to be cooler than the 2015 vintage, was characterized by temperatures above the seasonal average, especially during July and August. The slight rainfall during the month of September and the consequent lowering of temperatures, allowed the grapes to complete their maturation in an optimal way, enhancing the freshness of Sangiovese and giving the wine soft and balanced tannins.
The vinification begins with the arrival in the cellar, the grapes were de-stemmed and softly pressed and then transferred to stainless steel tanks where alcoholic fermentation took place. Maceration took about fifteen days at a temperature of 28 ° C. After the malolactic fermentation, the wine was transferred to oak barrels ranging in size from 30 to 80 Hl where the aging process in wood began. After two years Pian delle Vigne left the large barrel to move towards the long aging in the bottle.
The wine has an intense ruby red color. The nose is complex, with notes of ripe red fruit, reminiscent of cherry, well in harmony with the floral scents. The bouquet is completed by sensations of chocolate, tobacco, cloves and both aromatic and balsamic herbs. A Vintage, 2016, capable of expressing great finesse and elegance and giving the wine a good freshness accompanied by soft tannins and an excellent length of taste. Pleasant notes of spices and tobacco return to the finish.
