ROSSO DI MONTALCINO "PIAN DELLE VIGNE" ANTINORI 2021
Pian delle Vigne estate, located 6 km. south-west of Montalcino, it takes its name from the locality of the same name on which there is a characteristic nineteenth-century railway station. The company consists of 184 hectares, of which 65 are vineyards exposed mainly to the south-west at an altitude of about 130 meters above sea level. Pian delle Vigne has always pursued the philosophy oriented towards the large barrel, capable of preserving the extraordinary integrity of the Sangiovese fruit and giving the Brunello its characteristic vibrant elegance. The company has been owned by the Antinori family since 1995, the year of the first harvest of Pian delle Vigne Brunello di Montalcino DOCG.
Pian delle Vigne's Rosso di Montalcino enhances the pleasant fragrance of pure Sangiovese, a historic variety of Montalcino. The vineyards located on calcareous-clayey soils give life to a fresh, mineral and highly drinkable wine.
The spring of 2019, characterized in the first part by above average temperatures, gave way to a generally cool and dry climate in the second half of the season. During the month of May, frequent rainfall favored a slight slowdown in vegetative growth, while ensuring the excellent accumulation of water reserves in the soil. The summer season, remembered by many as one of the hottest in the Montalcino area, has never recorded high thermal peaks in the Pian delle Vigne area where, on the contrary, well-distributed rainfall and excellent temperature variations between day and night created the ideal conditions for a correct maturation of Sangiovese.
The vinification begins with the arrival in the cellar, the grapes were de-stemmed, softly pressed and transferred to stainless steel tanks where alcoholic fermentation took place at a temperature of 25 ° C, which took about 8-10 days. At the end of the malolactic fermentation, the wine began its refinement period lasting about 8 months.
The wine has a lively ruby red color. The nose is expressed with pleasant hints of red fruit, such as cherry and black cherry, with small floral notes of violet and lavender. On the palate it is fresh, fine and tasty, with soft and enveloping tannins; it strikes for the succulence of the fruit and for the persistence of taste. Excellent drinking pleasure.
