CHARDONNAY "KOONUNGA HILL" PENFOLDS 2022
The “Koonunga Hill” Chardonnay is a great Australian interpretation of the international Chardonnay grape. It is a perfect white wine to get to know and approach the personality of white wines produced in Australia, characterized by typical and very territorial hints of exotic fruit. The Penfolds producer is an authentic guarantee of quality, the largest and most famous wine producer in Australia, with a centuries-old history behind it.
The vines are grown in southern Australia, in two prestigious wine-growing areas known as Barossa Valley and Eden Valley, recognized for their peculiarities as Australian Geographical Indication since 1997. The soil rich in red clays, the abundant spring rains and the climate warm enhance the aromatic component. In the cellar, the vinification is carried out in stainless steel tanks and the wine thus obtained rests on the fine lees for 6 months in steel and third passage French barriques, capable of giving light and elegant toasted and woody notes.
Penfolds' Chardonnay “Koonunga Hill” stands out on the world scene for its rich and exuberant but also very balanced personality: fresh aromas of exotic fruit emerge from a warm and complex background. The brief aging in French oak gives the wine elegant nuances reminiscent of toasted almonds and hazelnuts. The sip is soft, creamy and enveloping, full of that juicy and fruity freshness typical of Australia.
The wine has a straw yellow color with greenish reflections. Intense aromas of apple, pear, melon, lemongrass and almond arrive on the nose. In the mouth it is fresh, creamy and well balanced. The expressiveness of the fruit is maintained, characterizing a long persistence.
