ORVIETO CLASS SUP SAN GIOVANNI DELLA SALA" ANTINORI 2019
Castello della Sala is located in Umbria, a short distance from the border with Tuscany, about 18 kilometers from the historic city of Orvieto. The lands of the Castle, an imposing medieval manor, extend for 500 hectares, of which 170 hectares planted with vines, halfway between the Paglia river and the summit of Monte Nibbio.
Castello della Sala was built in 1350 for Angelo Monaldeschi della Vipera, whose family had come to Italy following Charlemagne in the 9th century. From 1300 the members of the family opposed each other for the control of Orvieto, reached in 1437 by Gentile, grandson of Angelo dei Monaldeschi della Vipera and dictator of the city for about a decade. After Gentile's death in 1466, a peaceful season was inaugurated at the castle, crowned by the peacemaking marriage between Pietro Antonio della Vipera, Gentile's son, and his cousin Giovanna Monaldeschi della Cervara.
Born from the vineyards of Castello della Sala from the union of the native Grechetto and Procanico grapes with those of Pinot Bianco and Viognier to tell the classic Orvieto according to a new style.
After a short cold maceration, the Grechetto, Procanico, Pinot Bianco and Viognier grapes are fermented separately in steel tanks at a controlled temperature. After assembly, the wine rests for a few months in steel tanks and is bottled.
The San Giovanni della Sala has a pale yellow color with greenish reflections, the nose perceives the fruity notes of citrus, peach and pineapple. The wine is balanced with a good harmony between structure and acidity. The finish is lively and persistent.
